Monte hosted a poetry night titled "Strange Fruit" every second friday of the month at It's on Reynolda Coffee House in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The night has featured Andrew Davis, H2O, Nick Fox and continually brings in upcoming talent from across the Southeastern United States. However due to the powers that be, it was shut down due to its stong content (yes we were actually talking about racial, police brutality, corruption, corporation, and mason issues). We are looking for a new venue, if interested email: information@33third.com.

Smith blew everyone away including Baraka who was noticeably moved by Smith's genuinly touching command of words and images that was so reminiscent of his friend Ginsberg's brand of being intentionally off the beaten path.
- Dr. William H Turner (Winston-Salem Journal, 2002)

Monte brings you fire and ice. The burning of his heart is his passion; the coolness is his reason and insight. His poetry is a welcome ingredient in the mix of hip-hop.
- Mumia Abu-Jamal (Author, Journalist, unjustly incarcerated political prisoner)

Monte Smith's poetry book is hot! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- T La Rock (Hip-hop legend & pioneer)

Monte's poems read like testimonys of a person going through detox. You feel the extreme pain crawling inside, like worms trying to eat through your rib cage.
- Insomniac Magazine Issue: 21

Poetry abounds in Hip-hop, but rarely does an individual's work transcend the elements and conventions with such a gripping, emotional, and political style.
- Elemental Magazine Issue: 42

Audiences are blown away by his anger and the conviction with which he delivers an ages-old message of rich versus poor.
- Jaime Kritzer - Greensboro News & Record - Friday June 13, 2003
